One of the foundations of a solid marketing strategy is your email list. It's not subject to the crazy algorithm gods of Google and Facebook. It's portable and profitable.
But it can also be hard to grow. There are literally over 100 different types of lead magnets you can create to encourage people to sign up for your email list.
One of the most unique ways is through quizzes. While most of us have been hooked on quizzes since we were counting up our As, Bs, and Cs in the back of TeenBop and TigerBeat magazine to find out if he was being flirty or friendly (sorry guys – I don't think comics or Sports Illustrated had these types of quizzes!).
But in today's tech world, quizzes were a hard thing to create for your brand without a slew of web developers. Did you create a fillable or printable PDF with a key that your reader had to score themselves? Or maybe you knew just enough to code a form that would submit the answers to you so that an auto-responder could send them back the results.
That's all about to change, my quiz-loving, creative friends.
With Interact, you can build beautiful, easy-to-complete quizzes that grow your list in minutes – not hours or days.
Interact lets you easily create three quiz types:
- Assessment: These quizzes find out how much you know about something – like how much do you know about counting macros or Tony Stark. They're scored based on correct answers.
- Personality: A personality quiz usually answers the question “What kind of [blank] are you?” or “Which [blank] character are you?” These are the most common quiz type – very BuzzFeed.
- Scored: The most advanced quizzes, these categorize the taker by their score within a range. They're ideal for if you want to weigh one answer more than another.
Plus, you can create conditional logic in your quizzes! Let's say you were creating a quiz to see which diet is right for you. Maybe you ask “Do you know of any food allergies or intolerances?” If the answer is “yes,” then you probably want to ask which ones – or eliminate certain answers. If the answer is “I don't know” then you may also want to ask other questions to help get them to the right point.
Right now, you may be thinking “well that sounds interesting, but doesn't it take a ton of time?”
Short answer: Sure, it can. But Interact also has over 50,000 quizzes in dozens of categories that you can use as starting points for your quiz. Pick a template that's the basics of what you're looking for, customize, add your branding, and you're ready to go. I was able to build my first quiz in under an hour, and I know future quizzes will take even less time now that I have a process to map out my quiz.
Sample Quiz Ideas
Need a bit of inspiration for your quiz? Here are some ideas:
- What kind of blogger are you?
- What kind of classic car are you?
- Which Game of Thrones house do you belong to?
- How financially literate are you?
- Think you know about fitness and nutrition? Prove it!
- Are you a Pokemon master?
- How clean are you really?
- Can you pass this job interview?
- What is your makeup IQ?
- How confident are you?
- What is your Emotional Intelligence score?
- Which emoji matches your personality?
- What's in your dream wardrobe?
- What kind of bride are you?
- What's your artistic style?
- Are you a perfectionist?
- What's your project management style?
- What kind of traveler are you?
- What's your shoe personality?
Of course, these are just ideas. The possibilities are endless when you think about what your customers would want to know about themselves. And don't we all want to know a bit more about ourselves by answering a few questions?
Building Your List
One of the great things about Interact is that you can embed the quizzes on your own site as well as integrate them with your email service provider. They work with all the major providers including ConvertKit and MailerLite.
At the end of your quiz, you can offer the user the chance to enter their email address to get their results. Be sure to include the option to skip this step – research shows that giving the chance to NOT opt-in actually increases opt-in rates!
You can also add additional value to encourage them to sign up for your list. For example, you may want to offer a free eBook or checklist based on their score.
If your quiz-taker didn't sign up the first time you offered (ideally between the last question and revealing the solution), all is not lost. I love having individual upgrade offers for each answer – including an email sign up.
For example, if you run a travel agency and do a quiz based on “What's your ideal travel destination,” you can offer them a free guide to that destination on the confirmation page. If you're a nutritionist, you may want to offer different challenges or checklists along with a consultation call.
After the Quiz...
One of the benefits of growing your email list using a quiz is how much information you can get from your readers. With Interact, you can see every answer to every question – and then use that for future segmentations. If you created a quiz about “Which Harry Potter character are you?” – even though you're a dietician, you can tailor your offers based on their personality type. A Hermione may need more scientific research, while Harry would want more information about the camaraderie or group dynamic, while Luna would want to know how changing her diet was going to make her feel.
So with all these insights, you can start to slow down the “blast everyone” habit that many of us have, and spend the extra time to create special messages based on the personality types, assessments and scores that your customers achieved on their Interact quizzes.
If you're launching a new course, you may target your Hermione's with insights about everything they'll learn, and how they'll succeed. The Harry group message may focus more on the associated Facebook group, accountability partners and connections he'll make. And Luna – well, with Luna, talk about the transformation she will feel after the course – how empowered, how connected, and how proud of the new skills she's acquired.
So, are you thinking about creating quizzes with Interact? I'd love to see your quiz links in the comments!
